The goal of outdoor video analytics is to detect an intrusion in time to prevent or minimize harm. Too often, the main barrier to outdoor video success is the high volume of false and nuisance alarms, which arise from misapplying analytics intended for more controlled indoor surroundings.
The outdoor environment poses unique challenges not faced by indoor video analytics solutions:
| CHALLENGE | INDOOR | OUTDOOR |
| MOTION | None | Camera vibration, Pole sway |
| LIGHTING | Controlled | Day/Night extremes, clouds, reflections, shadows |
| TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY | Controlled | Extremes in temperature & humidity, rain, snow, wind, etc |
| COVERAGE | Short range | Long range, Wide area coverage |
| BANDWITH | High speed | Low bandwidth and/or wireless |
The key to accurate detection outdoors is to use technology specifically designed for outdoor area and perimeter security applications. The SightLogix Automated Outdoor Video system is the only solution with multiple built-in Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). These processors communicate directly with the imager, analyzing the full visual detail of every video frame, eliminating – at the source – all the impediments that would otherwise trigger nuisance alarms.
SightLogix intelligent video systems are specifically designed to address these outdoor variables. This begins with multiple on-board camera processors that communicate directly with the imager, analyzing the full visual detail of every video frame, eliminating – at the source – all the impediments that would otherwise trigger nuisance alarms.
Eliminate Camera Motion: To cover expansive outdoor areas, outdoor cameras are often mounted high on poles or rooftops where even slight winds can cause vibrations, impacting detection accuracy. SightLogix systems stabilize the image electronically to remove camera motion as a source of nuisance alarms in advance of the video analytics.
See What Would Be Missed: SightLogix systems distinguish non-salient motion that occurs in nature, such as moving leaves and water reflection to accurately detect and track legitimate targets from extraneous surrounding motion and clutter.
Dynamic Lighting Correction: Changing light conditions wreak havoc with conventional indoor detection software when applied outdoors. SightLogix systems dynamically compensate for the effects of clouds and shadows by processing and filtering the image before it is analyzed for policy violations.
Withstand Harsh Environments: The SightLogix SightSensor is housed in a sealed, nitrogen-filled enclosure. This enclosure, along with an optional heater for extreme cold environments, supports extremes in temperature from -22°F to 158°F. The enclosure is rated for NEMA 4X, ensuring that the camera will be undamaged by rain, sleet, snow, humidity, windblown dust, splashing water, hose-directed water or the external formation of ice on the enclosure.
Coverage: Using sensitive low-noise imaging and sub-pixel image stabilization enables SightSensors to accurately detect an intruder at up to 1,500 feet away--three times the distance of a typical camera. Increasing the distance by three increases the area covered by the camera approximately ten times.
Bandwidth: Because the video processing is completed at the camera’s edge, SightSensors can digitally encode and dynamically adjust the sensor output bandwidth to fit into virtually any channel bandwidth desired. These unique features make the SightLogix video quality and alarm accuracy completely independent of the bandwidth and Quality of Service (QoS) of the communication channel. As a result, the system can communicate over virtually any wireless method.
